Performance

Jazz:

Vicky began to have an interest in jazz when she started to learn to play saxophone and joined South Glos Youth Jazz Band. She started off playing Alto saxophone, learning to improvise within the band. She later moved to lead Tenor and Baritone saxophone and performed at Yate Music festival, Colston Hall and Adrian boult Hall with the jazz band. Vicky also ran the jazz band at The Ridings Federation Winterbourne International Academy for students wanting to play in a jazz band introducing them to the jazz style and improvisation within a jazz group, the students ranged from grades 1-3 standards. Vicky also played piano for the jazz band and made the arrangements for them to play. Now Vicky is learning more about jazz performance at university and has joined the Big Band and Big band society there playing Tenor and Baritone Saxophone.

Other Ensembles:

Vicky's first experience of playing in a chamber group was with South Glos chamber reeds group, reedup! Here she began to pick up different instruments, she performed on Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone saxophones and clarinet and Bass clarinet throughout her time with reedup! She was also in a flute group called Flutissimo ran by Nicky Russell. Vicky now performs reguarly with Bath Spa University clarinet and flute ensemble in areas around Bath.

Vicky also has perfomed as a pit musician for shows including, Oliver, We will Rock You the musical, Joseph, Sister Act and will be playing the reed part in a prouction of HONK! from the 16th August.

Orchestral:

Since Vicky began learning clarinet, she has been involved with many different orchestras in the Bristol area. She started off playing clarinet on a Saturday morning at Thornbury Area Music Centre, in the beginners orchestra and the windband for many years working her way up to the senior orchestra, where she began to play the bass clarinet and Eb clarinet. Soon after, Vicky auditioned for South Glos Youth Orchestra and became principle clarinettist. Being involved with the orchestra gave Vicky the chance to perform in Music for Youth festivals taking her to venues including the Colston Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall. After nine years of performing with South Glos Youth Orchestras, before she left for university, Vicky performed Mozarts clarinet concerto with the orchestra in their end of year summer concert in 2014. She has also been on tours performing in venues and festivals around Europe. Vicky also played Eb clarinet for Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra rehearsals and took part in workshops with The National Youth Orchestra in Birmingham Symphony Hall. Currently, Vicky is playing clarinet in bath Spa University Orchestra.

WindBand:

Vicky was principle clarinettist for Thornbury Area Music Centre senior Wind Band for 5 years, she then moved to bass clarinet and tenor saxophone for a further 2 years before leaving the band for university. Simultaneously, Vicky was leader and principle clarinettist of South Glos Youth Wind Orchestra for 3 years, playing both Eb and Bb clarinet. Vicky performed many well known windband works in major concert venues with both windbands and went on European tours, meeting friends and playing for festivals, busking and gaining a cultural knowledge in musical performance. Vicky now plays clarinet for the Bath Spa University Wind Band.

Choir:

Vicky had an interest in singing from a young age, she was in various choirs throughout her whole time at school singing a mix of soprano and alto. She is currently singing soprano in Bath Spa University choir and has performed works such as Will Todds Mass in Blue in St Georges, Bristol and Belshazzars Feast with Bath Philharmonia Orchestra. The choir also went on tour to New York in January 2016 to perform Karl Jenkins Mass for Peace in the Carnagie Hall.
